Game Jargon Definition: “Character Creation”
Character Creation (noun, verb) - char·ac·ter cre·a·tion /ˈkerəktər krēˈāSH(ə)n/
In role-playing games, the dramatic persona that a new player is going to be inhabiting needs to be assembled in two broad stages: a character needs a backstory and personality, and a character also needs statistics or abilities. Usually, these two parts of a character are closely linked; the noble warrior who protects the weak is likely to be worse at stealing than the thief, etc. A character also generally needs a name. Some games allow the character to be assembled from a smorgasbord of options and elements, while others generate characters through more controlled systems. Occasionally, character creation is handled through play, with a minigame of sorts representing the character's background and developing skills.
