Northgard: Uncharted Lands
Pete: All right, you know what time it is. I’ve been waiting for most of 2022 for this: It’s time to unbox Northgard: Uncharted Lands (2022) designed by Adrian Dinu and published by Studio H!
Rick: Stop, stop, stop.
Pete: Dude, what the heck? I’m right in the middle of a flow.
Rick: Exactly. What the heck? Are we really going to unbox another crowdfunded, video-game-to-board-game port that is clearly just meant to capitalize on an existing IP?
Pete: Well…
Rick: What about originality? What about risk-taking? What about thinking outside of the box?
Pete: Actually, it’s pretty well thought out. They’ve actually designed the base game to be able to store all of the expansions inside the box. Isn’t that what we want?
Rick: Brrrroooooo…
Pete: Okay, what exactly is your problem? Do you not like 4X games?
Rick: No, I like those.
Pete: Do you not like cool, colorful models?
Rick: Cool, colorful models are good.
Pete: Do you not like dice, decks of cards, smart mechanics, and modularity?
Rick: Good, good, good, and typically good.
Pete: So what’s your problem?
Rick: Well—
Pete: I get it. You stepped up on your soapbox, it was slippery, you fell backwards, and it got lodged up somewhere where—
Rick: Okay, this is a family show. Don’t finish that.
Pete: Great! Thanks! Now I can get back to my flow…it’s gone. So. I. Er. Come watch Pete (me) unbox Northgard. It’s full of, uh, colorful plastic stuff.
